Saturday, September 11th 10:00am-Noon

Volunteer Day with Wellesley College & Northeastern

Woodlands restoration work. Invite your teenagers to help save trees in the park's forest and work side-by-side with college students and alums to hear a little about life on campus. Wear sturdy clothes (no sandals) and bring a water bottle. All ages welcome. Meet at Valley Gates midway along the main park road.

What to Plant? A workshop on fall planting 

Tour a model planting site  that replaced a hillside of the tenacious invasive, Japanese Knotweed, in the Back Bay Fens. With many parallels to the Franklin Park woodlands, you'll learn how the knotweed was removed, the different types of plants considered, how to plant, and how to maintain a planting site. Landscape Watercolor Painting Workshops

Materials provided. Paint the beautiful sweeping views or a nature close up.  Ages 8 and older. On Schoolmaster Hill. Presented by ParkARTS of the Boston Parks Department. For more information: 617.635.4505 ext.3051

Olmsted's Roxbury - a bike tour

Get to know Olmsted's landscape features and imprint in Franklin Park and other sites throughout Roxbury; learn more about Boston in the 1880s - industrialization, street cars, mansions and more. $5.00 - please register in advance. Co-presented by Discover Roxbury. Meet at the Giraffe (rear) Entrance to the Zoo.

Fall Forest Festival

Volunteer in the morning, then stick around for tree climbing, games, family nature walks (every hour), water color painting (noon), and our seasonal "Weeds As Feed" edible plants walk (4:00pm). All ages welcome! Festival registration at Valley Gates all day. Everything's FREE!

 

Wednesday, October 6th  4:30-6:30pm

Great Parks = Vibrant Cities

Join successful park advocates from around the country in a strategy session about how to build great parks even during financial hard times. Panel moderator will be Governor Dukakis. The event will be held at the Copley Library. Free for all who care about our city's parks. Presented by Friends of the Public Garden, celebrating their 40th anniversary.

Swing for Boston Golf Classic

To benefit the Boston Junior Golf Program - free lessons for youth all summer long. $150 participation fee; sponsorship options available. At the Golf Clubhouse. For more information and to register, call: 617-961-3039.

Saturday, November 20th  10:00am-Noon

Autumn Leaf Raking

Bring a rake if you have one, come rake leaves on the park's paths and in the playgrounds to keep them looking nice all winter. Hot chocolate provided if it's a cold day! Jumping in piles encouraged. Meet at Valley Gates midway along the main park road.
